Apples are deliciously sweet and contain fibre in the form of pectin, which keeps your digestive system functioning regularly. Pectin also acts as a prebiotic. This means it feeds the beneficial bacteria in your gut. You will also feel fuller and therefore applesauce is a great diet aid. Keep the peel on- they contain polyphenol antioxidants!

If you want to eat healthy, then whole apples are an excellent choice.

serves: 2-3
preparation time: 10 minutes

ingredients
2 large apples, chopped and cored
10 cm peel from a lemon
2 cloves
1/2 cinnamon stick
pinch salt
pinch nutmeg or cardamon
1/2 star anise
1/4 cup water

Place apples in sauce pan with water, spices and lemon peel. Simmer until apples are soft. Let cool to room temperature. Remove cinnamon sticks, cloves and peel. Place apple mixture in food processor and pulse. Pour into mason jars and store in refrigerator. 

Applesauce makes a nice snack by itself or add to your oats in the morning and sprinkle with walnut pieces.
